The ‘Christening’ of the B. B. Quartz Mine’s 38′ overshot waterwheel at Jericho in 1901. The event was attended by many of the local dignitaries, including Richard Mackay (third from the left in the foreground). A chicken and champagne lunch was served for the occasion. The township of Jericho nestled in the wide valley of the Jordan River at its junction with the B. B. Creek. The B.B. Quartz Mine was located within a quarter of a mile from Jericho, on the spur which divides the Jordan from the B.B. Creek, was first opened in 1865. (The Jordan Valley – The Jordan Goldfields ranged from Jamieson in the north to Walhalla in the south.)
