By collecting, digitizing and cataloguing high country records that reflect the history and identity of the high country and its people, the collection traces events and decisions that have helped shaped the nation, preserving a significant story of Australia’s cultural heritage and identity.
The HCHH has been established to preserve all of those pieces of history that exist in the personal collections of the High Country families, but also attempts to include the broader history of the high country, its people, the places, the challenges, the stories……...
The MCAV membership stretches across the Shires of Wellington, Alpine, Mansfield and East Gippsland. The MCAV Collection includes primary source materials including publications, speeches, diaries, letters, press releases, photographs and cinefilm. You will also find transcripts of oral histories, and personal/ private records of cattlemen and their families.
The Mansfield Historical Society archives contain a wealth of information about the history of Mansfield and the surrounding district including genealogical information, microfiche documents, photos, memorabilia, maps and an extensive clothing collection. The Society has many books and photographs of the local area (that are available for purchase). The HCHH website does not hold the complete MHS Collection. The Merrijig Public Hall Collection includes Minutes of the Hall Committee from 1928, correspondence and images.
Our collection includes material produced and published by HCHH organisations and references to externally produced publications that have relevance or make reference to the High Country.
We currently have over 5,000 images in our database.
Our film and video collection documents the high country history in moving pictures and sound. The collection links to YouTube.
