Red Cross Certificate awarded to Miss Margaret Kerr for five years devoted service under The Australian Red Cross Society (BRCS) during the Great War 1914-1919. Margaret was born in Mansfield in 1895. She was Mary Usher’s Mother. Mary married Angus Usher. Born in Mansfield in 1895 Margaret Kerr grew up in the district. At the outbreak of war in 1914 she became involved working for the war relief through Red Cross. At the end of the war she was awarded this certificate in recognition of her service. She was a helper with the victims of the flu epidemic and trained as a fever nurse at Fairfield Hospital. The Kerr family left Mansfield soon after the war. In 1950 Margaret’s daughter Mary returned to Mansfield on her marriage to Angus Usher who farmed in the Tolmie area. Mary, now residing in Bunyip, was a much loved member of the community and a valued member of the nursing fraternity.
