New Dempsey’s Boiler – John Adams and his team of 17 horses at the ‘passing place,’ on the road between Gaffneys Creek and Knockwood, hauling new boiler to Gaffneys Creek for the Rose of Denmark Mine, circa 1903. John Adams in partnership with J. Ross, “The Enterprising Packers”, shifted boilers and heavy machinery up to the Gaffney’s Creek (probably the A1 mine) and Woods Point Goldfield. John Ross’s buggy follows behind. John Adams, son of Robert and Mary Adams, died in 1908. Note: passing place and flying fox rope, screw brakes. John Adams is in waistcoat, behind and left of the teamster holding the reins.
