Mansfield members – Victorian Mounted Rifles. Formed 1 May 1885 under Col. Tom Price. Front row from left kneeling: Bernard Melano. Front row from left seated: Lt. William Parsons, Major Alfred Crockett. Col Tom Price, Unknown, David Reardon (about 20 years of age – Pat Arbuthnot’s father). Middle row far right: Denis Reardon (Anne Ware’s grandfather). Volunteers used their own horses and saddles but were provided with uniforms and other equipment. Officers carried sword Other ranks carried rifles and bayonets.
