Locket presented to Private John Brooks by the relatives of the late Lieut Roberts, who was killed at Retaburg, South Africa during the Boer War. Brooks bravely carried Roberts out under heavy fire. Inscription on locket: “From the relatives of Lieut Roberts in appreciation of kindness and bravery shown during action, South Africa 12.2.1900”
