Dick Forrest and Peter Purcell, in partnership, taking cattle into Mitchells Creek for summer grazing (On the narrow Bridle Track) up the Jamieson River 1978-1980. Commentary by Dick Forrest: We took 150 cattle up the Bridle Track in single file we went in before the main drive to clear track it was very overgrown. In places there were huge drops on one side about 200 or 300 feet down. We would have one rider up front in case there were bush walkers on the track. If there were we would ask them to climb up the bank away from the track out of sight. If the cattle saw them they could spook them and they could try to turn back or mill around causing some of the cattle to fall down over the edge. We lost a few cattle from falls. Then we would have one rider with about 10 or 15 cattle walking slowly in the front and a rider about every 40 or 50 cattle. If cattle got off the track it was often too steep to go after them on horseback so we would have to go after them on foot and walk them quietly back onto the track. The cattle sometimes a bit flighty mostly did a very good job settling down quickly with their mates.
