3 images. Corporal Ewen Alexander Cameron – Service no 3040. 7th Reinforcement, 21st Battalion, 6th Infantry Brigade, A.I.forces, Egypt. (written on back of photo) Born 1884 in Wahring, Vic. Son of Donald Fraser and Janet Craig CAMERON of ‘Lochiel, Mansfield, Vic. Killed in action in France on 19 July, 1916. He was formerly reported missing. Aged 32 years Memorialised V C Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, Lille, Nord Pas de Calais, France, Grave/Memorial Reference 19. Education Department’s Record of War Service 1914-1919 Victoria (this reference cites 60th Battalion). He was formerly head teacher at School 1753, Banyena. He held the position of temporary teacher at School 3533, Bruarong; 3286, Neerim North-east; 3344, Glenburn; 2076, Invergordon; 3724, Tangambalanga; and 3471, Upper Ryan’s Creek, before becoming a permanent teacher. Inspectors’ reports refer to his great interest in his work and show that he was most anxious to excel. His brother, Sergeant John Allan Cameron, Service no 3041, 60th Battalion. Born 10 October 1891 at Mansfield, Vic. Returned to Australia per ‘Borda’ June 1919. Died after a brief illness 07 February 1920.
