Barwite and Gonzaga Picnic Sports – March 1911. (No 1) (Ref on back from Mansfield Courier) The picnic was held at the Barwite Recreation Reserve, (now named Gonzage Reserve) and there was a very large attendance on the day. The main event was a footrace called the Sheffield Handicap, which was wond by Mr. J. G. Hamilton. The hobby skirt race caused a gread deal of excitement among the crowd, and the Stockman’s competition attracted many entries, as it was a new event. All considered the day a great success, and more then 70 couples attended an evening dance held on the reserve. – taken from the Mansfield Courier.
